Friday Finds (10)

Hmmm so this week I figured I would try something different and add the synopsis for the books that I find, because I know that the cover of a book & the synopsis is what draws most people to a book. ;)

Donut Days by: Lara Zielin

I found this book on the Penguin website, and I immediately fell in love with the cover! I mean who wouldn't want to have powdered sugar fall on them like rain? :) And then I read the synopsis and I knew that I had to read it ... only downside though is it won't be released until August 6th, 2009. :(

Emma has a lot going on. Her best friend’s not speaking to her, a boy she’s known all her life is suddenly smokin’ hot and in love with her, and oh yes, her evangelical minister parents may lose their church, especially if her mother keeps giving sermons saying Adam was a hermaphrodite.

But this weekend Emma’s only focused on Crispy Dream, a hot new donut franchise opening in town, where Harley bikers and Frodo wannabes camp out waiting to be the first ones served. Writing the best feature story on the camp for the local paper might just win Emma a scholarship to attend a non- Christian college. But soon enough Emma finds the donut camp isn’t quite the perfect escape from all her troubles at Living Word Redeemer.

The Saucier's Apprentice by: Bob Spitz

I found this book on flickr....? yeah. It's about one man's journey through the best cooking schools in Europe, which sounds like it could be an interesting read. Oh and the cover is amazing ... kind of makes me want to get off the computer and cook something. ;)

Au Revoir To All That: Food, Wine, and the End of France
by: Michael Steingerger

I found this one on Goodreads. It's about the transition of traditional French cuisine to fast food joints like Mcdonalds. The cover is kind of depressing, I can just picture the man looking at everyone going into a fast food restaurant. :(

The Tales of Beedle the Bard by: J.K. Rowling

Okay so this is not exactly new and I am pretty sure most of you would of read it by now ... but with the upcoming movie release in July, I am starting to get back into the HP madness (which is a wonderful break from the crazy Twilight fans). At first I wasn't really interested in reading this one, but now I think I just want it for my collection. ;)

Foreign Tongue
by: Vanina Marsot

Only one book this week and I found it from a review by Sheri at A Novel Menagerie. I think that I would really enjoy reading this book because I have been to Paris and will hopefully be learning to speak French in the fall. :D

Friday Finds (6)

In honor of the 18th Century Gossip Party being held at Marie Antoinette's Gossip Guide to the 18th Century
all of my Friday finds this week are books about
Marie Antoinette :D

Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution
by: Caroline Weber

This is one of the most original and intriguing title of a novel about Marie Antoinette. Instead of just recounting Marie Antionette's life this novel tells the Queen's story through the choices she made in her clothing throughout her life.

Versailles: A Biography of a Palace by: Tony Spawforth

Such a beautiful cover! This one is all about the magnificence that is Versailles. It was home not only to Marie Antoinette, but also Louis XV, Louis XVI, and of course the Sun King himself Louis XIV.

Moi and Marie Antoinette by: Lynn Cullen and Amy Young

Awwwww a children's book about the lovely Marie Antoinette told by her pug dog Moi. Not only would this book introduce children to Marie Antoinette, it could spark a love of history which is always a good thing.

Friday Finds (5)

The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by: Tiffany Baker

Talk about cover attraction.... I love this cover, it's just so adorable! I actually got to see this one in a bookstore, and it was still cute in person ;) Also I have heard many great things about the book from people who also liked the cover, such as the review from A Bookworm's World.

Lost it by: Kristen Tracy

This is another nice cover, I really like the vibrant colors of it and the fact that they don't show the people's faces. The synopsis doesn't offer too much information except for all the bizarre things that happen to the heroine. The question is: does the title implying that she lost her mind or something else..... ;)

You Had Me at Halo by: Amanda Ashby

This book caught my eye because the cover is very original for a book about returning from the dead. The storyline seemed a little over done, someone returns to earth because they had something to finish, but after reading the synopsis it turns out that Amanda Ashby has managed to add a couple significant twists into her story.

Friday Finds (4)

Because I Am Furniture by: Thalia Chaltas

This cover is amazing. I tend to not like covers that feature real people because I like to be able to picture them myself without any image influence, so I love how they just used a silhouette. I also really like the title since the book is about abuse.

Once was Lost by: Sara Zarr

This is the second book by Sara Zarr on my Friday Finds list. I just really love her covers, the are so simple and yet so elegant and original. The storyline also looks very appealing.

Divorced, Beheaded, Died... by: Kevin Flude

I LOVE non-fiction (being a history major made this happen) and I love European history, so a non-fiction book about the monarchs of Britain is a perfect fit.
Plus? The cover features the same crown as my header ;)
Downside? I have to wait until September 17th :(

Friday Finds (3)

Memoirs of a Geisha by: Arthur Golden

Ok, so I have not been locked in a closet.... I have known about memoirs of a Geisha for a while now. The reason it's in Friday finds is because of the cover, I am in love! If they would of had this cover on the shelves at the bookstore I would have bought it already.

Fat Hoochie Prom Queen by: Nico Medina

While wandering around bookmooch I found this lovely book. I have already read Nico Medina's other book, The Straight Road to Kylie, and loved it. An added bonus is that the cover of this book is hailirous.

Marie-Therese, Child of Terror: The Fate of Marie Antionette's Daughter by: Susan Nagel

So, if haven't noticed already... I have an obession with Marie Antoinette. This book is very original becuase it is about the life of Marie Antoinette's duaghter, which sadly I do not know too much about.

Friday Finds (2)

Sweethearts by: Sara Zarr

I really like the cover of this one, it's very minimalistic but still intriguing.... or that could just be my sweet tooth talking. It is a young adult book which are always nice, quick, comforting reads especially when the cover is a cookie ;)

The Red Necklace by: Sally Gardner

I am in love with the cover of this book, unfortunately this is the U.K. version and the American version which can be seen here is pretty unoriginal and boring.
The book is about one of my favorite period in history, the French Revolution. For a review of the book check out Gaskella's Blog.

Did you find anything interesting this week? Or have you had the chance to read either of these two?

Friday Finds (1)

Dancing to the Precipice: Lucie De La Tour Du Pin
and the French Revolution

by: Caroline Moorehead
This book caught my eye on Amy's blog because it is set in one of my favorite periods of history. The main character Lucie is also half Irish, which compels me to want to read it since I also have Irish in me. Luckily the book's release date in the states is June 30th, which means I have time to make a dent in my waiting to be read pile.

Confessions of a Former Child: A Therapist's Memoir
by: Daniel Tomasulo
I am mainly drawn to this book due to Drey's post, where she mentioned that the author believed he controlled traffic lights when he was younger... which is something I believed I had the power to do to. The cover of the book is amazing and I am sure if I saw it on a bookshelf I would pick it up.
